Hope on the Horizon
Created with the children of Hands of Hope at Grace Centers of Hope
Acrylic on wood panel, 24" x 36"
“Art has the power to heal, to give hope, and to remind us we are not alone.”
Looking at this painting, it’s hard to believe it was created by three- and four-year-olds. I’m so proud of them — their focus, creativity, and patience were incredible. It took a great deal of care, curiosity, and skill from these little artists, and they poured their hearts into every brushstroke.
With the children of Hands of Hope, this piece was created as an exploration of art. Using professional-grade acrylics on a 24” x 36” wood canvas, each child contributed their own mark — a gesture of individuality and shared creativity.
Through playful experimentation, the children explored color, texture, and technique to bring Hope on the Horizon to life. They mixed paints, washed the sky on with cotton fabric, used “my friend the giant’s” oversized brush to form the ocean, karate-chopped modeling paste for texture, and sprinkled in a little hope with touches of gold leaf. Every moment was filled with laughter, curiosity, and creativity — a true celebration of imagination and joy.
I am so proud of the children and their finished work, Hope on the Horizon. They worked so incredibly hard — from trying to fit their tiny fingers into painting gloves to learning new techniques and finding creative ways to use the materials, all while being mindful of their fellow young artists. That’s a lot to ask of such a little group, and they rose beautifully to the challenge. This piece reflects who they are — imaginative, kind, and full of possibility. They should be so proud, because they did this. These little ones are meant to live beautiful, wonder-filled lives, chasing whatever masterpieces they dream up next.
I’m deeply thankful to Hands of Hope and Grace Centers of Hope for the incredible work they do for these children and for everyone who walks through their doors. I’m also grateful for the opportunity to be a part of this project and help alongside them. Hope on the Horizon will be featured in the auction at the annual Night of Hope Gala, honoring Hands of Hope and the light they bring to so many lives.
Sunshine and Waves
Created with a family during an outdoor art session at camp
Acrylic on canvas, 18" x 24"
“Every color tells a story — this one was painted in the heart of summer.”
The colors in Sunshine and Waves remind me of childhood and summer fun — bright, free, and full of movement. Created outdoors during their family vacation, the piece captures the easy spirit of connection, creativity, and time spent together. Immersed in nature, each family member — from elementary to middle school — contributed their own color and energy to the piece. Using professional-grade acrylics, they layered movement, texture, and emotion to create a vibrant reflection of joy and togetherness.
I loved creating with these kids! They were everything an artist could hope for — fun, enthusiastic, and full of ideas. Each one worked so diligently, carefully considering every brushstroke. They truly are artists at heart. I especially loved our moment of discovery when a misplaced brushstroke transformed from a “mistake” into a beloved detail of the piece. Their creativity and joy made this experience unforgettable, and I’ll always think of Sunshine and Waves with a full heart.
The finished artwork radiates warmth and movement — a visual echo of the laughter, patience, and imagination that filled the day. Sunshine and Waves is more than a painting; it’s a memory of connection, creativity, and the beauty of making something together in nature.
